Welcome to Limestone Hills, a small farm in the Waipara Valley, an hour’s drive North of Christchurch on the South Island of New Zealand, where Gareth and Camille Renowden grow three kinds of gourmet truffles and pinot noir and syrah grapes. Limestone Hills is the only truffière in New Zealand producing three species of truffle: the prestigious Perigord black truffle, the delicious bianchetto white truffle, and the beautiful Burgundy truffle. Their wines are only produced in tiny quantities from their 1,200 vine vineyard, but the interesting terroir means they are earning a reputation in a valley noted for its fine wines. They welcome guests to share the peace and beauty of their farm and garden by renting The Shearer’s Cottage — a luxury two bedroom cottage overlooking the vineyard, truffière and Waipara River.
For recent news of events at Limestone Hills, be sure to check the farm blog, cunningly entitled On The Farm, look in and “like” the Limestone Hills Facebook page or follow Gareth’s tweets. There are lots of pictures of Limestone Hills and the local area in our photo galleries, and information on our truffle growing exploits on the Truffle page. And be sure to check out Gareth’s books…
